Lindsie Chrisley: There Was a 'Missing Piece' in Will Campbell Marriage

Through the good times and the bad? Lindsie Chrisley and Will Campbell have weathered many storms during their relationship, but ultimately they decided to split in July 2021.

The Chrisley Knows Best alum found love with Campbell in 2009 after meeting at Georgia State University one year prior. However, the pair’s relationship was not met with excitement from the TV personality’s family. Tensions grew worse between the “Southern Tea” podcast host and her father, Todd Chrisley, after the pair eloped in 2012.

“I had a problem with the way the marriage started. Not just on Will’s side but on my daughter’s side as well,” Todd told E! News in August 2016 after one of Lindsie and Campbell’s breakups. “I don’t think that the marriage started out the way that it should have, and certainly not the way that a father would like to see a marriage start.”

The reality star added: “You know, a father has his dreams when he has a child or a daughter that a young man is going to come and knock on the door one day and say, ‘Mr. Chrisley, I love your daughter so much and may I have her hand in marriage?’ That never happened. The level of respect wasn’t there.”

Lindsie, for her part, opened up about the pair’s growing pains two months prior, penning a story for Today. The southern belle, who welcomed son Jackson with Campbell the same year they got married, admitted that their marriage hit a bump in the road after they became parents.

“I feel like for a while your marriage changes — for me at least, I fell so in love with Jackson that I almost neglected my marriage in a way. Not on purpose, but out of the newness in our schedule, and us making Jackson our first priority,” she explained in June 2016. “Learning to work together and sharing daily parental duties is key. I got married and thought my heart was full, but then I had Jackson and realized there’s way more room for love.”

Lindsie gushed about motherhood, writing, “Out of everything in this world, being a parent is my most favorite title. I love watching my baby grow everyday and hopefully we will expand our family some day.”

Although the couple seemingly repaired some of the cracks in their relationship in 2017, after a brief split, their happy marriage didn’t last. Lindsie announced in July 2021 that the pair were divorcing after more than a decade together.

The TV personality left Chrisley Knows Best after five seasons. Lindsie told Dr. Phil in October 2019 that she walked away after an alleged “altercation” between her and her stepmom, Julie Chrisley, happened off camera. Although Julie denied the claims, Lindsie said, “I felt like the environment was volatile and I didn’t want to be around it.” YouTube

The couple made headlines in August when Lindsie’s father claimed she had cheated on Campbell back in 2016 with Bachelor Nation’s Robby Hayes and Josh Murray. The allegations surfaced after Lindsie filed a police report claiming that Todd and her stepbrother Chase Chrisley threatened to extort her with an alleged sex tape because they “wanted her to lie about an incident.” Murray told E! News at the time that he had been “friends for years” with Lindsie. Hayes, for his part, later clarified that the two didn’t make a sex tape, but were caught hooking up on a puppy camera. However, the drama with Todd didn’t end there. He later claimed that his daughter leaked information about his finances to an investigator, which he said led to his and wife Julie’s tax evasion case. Hayes told Us Weekly in September that he and Lindsie did have a relationship a few years prior, but again denied making a sex tape with her — or having an affair. “It was more serious than a one-time thing, but we never became official,” he explained. “We went through the dating and courting stages, and we were flirting. I took her out; I took her to baseball games, events that we were both invited to from a public personality aspect.” The Bachelorette alum noted that things never got to the “committal stage” because Lindsie had a life in Georgia with her then-estranged husband and son. “I enjoyed spending time with her but we never got to that. … We haven’t been sexually active with each other in two years, but back then we had a fling,” he concluded. Campbell took over his wife’s Instagram account in March to gush over their romance and give fans a glimpse at their relationship. “I wanted to use this platform & my spare time to express how much Lindsie annoys me,” he joked. “She makes me take a shower anytime I go outside, even if it's just for a second [she’s deathly afraid of germs & thinks clothes capture deadly germs when they touch air.] She says that my cooking is the equivalent to dog food & if I’m being honest, it kind of is.” The former baseball player continued: “Even though she makes fun of me & drives me crazy, she holds my heart & I wouldn't trade anything for her craziness. The looks she gives me when she's half awake, when she sometimes holds my hand rolling down the highway & the way she parents & gives everything she has to our child❤️ I love you bean.” Courtesy Lindsie Chrisley/Instagram

The former Bravo personality confirmed that she and Campbell were ready to have another baby during a June episode of her “Coffee Convos” podcast with Kailyn Lowry. “I do want to confirm that Will and I will be on the trying game very soon,” Lindsie told her listeners. “At the courthouse. Make it fashionable & kind. 12 years. Can’t break that,” Lindsie captioned a sweet Instagram snap of her and Campbell for Valentine’s Day. “If you’ve followed me for a long time you know I’m not big on Valentine’s Day, but for those of you who are — I hope you had the best weekend full of love, happiness & appreciation. 🖤 I believe that love is the most amazing thing in life. It is what makes us human && what makes life worth living. Nothing else truly matters. ✨.” Courtesy Sarah Vitel Photography

Lindsie announced in July that she and Campbell were getting a divorce after nine years of marriage. “It’s with the deepest sadness that, after 9 years of marriage, Will & I have mutually decided to end our marriage. We maintain the greatest respect & love for one another, & we’re so grateful for our time together,” she wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of her and son Jackson. “We will continue to remain friends & be devoted parents to our son whom we both love very much.” Dana Mixer/MEGA

After Todd and Julie Chrisley were found guilty in their $30 million fraud trial, Lindsie claimed on her "Coffee Convos" podcast that she hadn't heard from her ex-husband amid the legal battle. "I think that maybe things that have gone on in the past with Will and I, some rockiness with my parents' relationship with Will and you know, vice versa, his relationship with them, or lack thereof," she said in June 2022. "I think a lot of things kind of came to the forefront over these past two weeks. And Will was pretty much unwilling to switch with me, knowing that I needed to be in court and needed to be there with my family. And that was really hard." She added, "I was with Will for 12 years, and in his family for 12 years, very closely in his family. And not one single person, including my ex-husband, reached out to acknowledge anything. As angry as I want it to be, it truly gave me a sense of, I felt validated. Not that I needed more validation, but I did feel validated in the entire divorce process and why I am where I am today."
