Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber’s Health Struggles Through the Years

Together through it all. Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey Bieber, have both experienced their fair share of health battles through the years.

“Wanted to share a little bit of how I’ve been feeling. Each day has gotten better and through all of the discomfort, I have found comfort in the one who designed me and knows me. I’m reminded he knows all of me,” the “Love Yourself” singer wrote via Instagram in June 2022, just days after revealing that he was suffering from Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

“It is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis,” the Canada native explained in his initial post about the neurological disorder. “As you can see, this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril will not move.”

Three months before Justin opened up about his partial paralysis, Hailey was hospitalized after experiencing stroke-like symptoms.

“I had a very scary incident on March 10. Basically, I was sitting at breakfast with my husband, having a normal day, normal conversation, and we were in the middle of talking and all of a sudden, I felt this really weird sensation that kind of like traveled down my arm from my shoulder all the way down to my fingertips,” the model explained in an April 2022 YouTube video. “It made my fingertips feel really numb and weird.”

Calling the experience the “scariest moment of [her] life,” the Arizona native recalled what doctors told her when she arrived at the emergency room.

“[They] were able to see that I had suffered a small blood clot in my brain, which they labeled and categorized as something called a TIA [Transient Ischemic Attack], basically it’s like having a mini-stroke,” she explained. “I felt really thankful and grateful that it wasn’t worse, and I wouldn’t have any permanent issues.”

Justin and Hailey, who tied the knot in September 2018, have supported each other through their respective medical scares.

“I love u baby,” the Rhode founder wrote via her Instagram Story in June 2022, resharing Justin’s video detailing his Ramsay Hunt Syndrome diagnosis.

That same month, Hailey addressed both her and her husband’s well-being during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“I am doing OK. … I’m just kind of allowing my body the time to heal and do its thing, but I’m doing OK,” she shared. “[Justin’s] also doing OK. Obviously, it’s been a weird turn of events the last couple months — the last even, few days — but he’s OK. He’s gonna be totally OK.”

Struggles With Addiction
In a February 2019 joint Vogue interview with his wife, Justin confessed that he abused Xanax during his teenage years.  “I found myself doing things that I was so ashamed of, being super promiscuous and stuff, and I think I used Xanax because I was so ashamed,” the “Sorry” musician admitted.  “Drugs put a screen between me and what I was doing. It got pretty dark. I think there were times when my security was coming in late at night to check my pulse and see if I was still breathing,” he added, stating that he hadn’t touched drugs since undergoing an “informal detox” in 2014.  David Fisher/Shutterstock
Lyme Disease
The Grammy award winner revealed in January 2020 that he had been secretly battling with Lyme disease.  “While a lot of people kept saying Justin Bieber looks like s–t, on meth etc., they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health,” he wrote via Instagram at the time. “It’s been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever NO CAP,” he added.  Gregory Pace/Shutterstock
Blood Clot
After suffering from a small blood clot in her brain in March 2022, Hailey underwent surgery to have a flap-like opening in her heart closed. “It went very smoothly and I’m recovering really well, really fast,” she told her Instagram followers that April. “I feel great. The biggest thing I feel, honestly, is I just feel really relieved that we were able to figure everything out, that we were able to get it closed, that I will be able to move on from this really scary situation and just live my life.” Matt Baron/BEI/Shutterstock
Ramsay Hunt Syndrome
In June 2022, Justin announced via Instagram video that he was suffering from facial paralysis due to the neurological disorder. “This is pretty serious as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case. But obviously, my body is telling me I need to slow down,” he said in the clip. The “What Do You Mean?” vocalist addressed fans “frustrated by my cancelations of my next shows,” explaining, “I’m just physically not capable of doing them.” In October, Justin postponed the remainder of his 2022 tour dates until 2023 to focus on his health. Ovarian Cyst
Hailey shared a photo of her stomach via Instagram in November 2022. “I have a cyst on my ovary the size of an apple,” she wrote. “I don’t have endometriosis or PCOS but I have gotten an ovarian cyst a few times and it’s never fun.” The former Drop the Mic host added: “It’s painful and achy and makes me feel nauseous and bloated and cramps and emotional.” Stephen Lovekin/Shutterstock
